Women are underrepresented in heart disease research

Inspite of the fact that heart disease is the leading cause of death among women worldwide, women remain underrepresented in heart disease research.

Women accounted for less than 40% of all people enrolled in cardiovascular clinical trials from 2010 through 2017, according to a study published in the journal Circulation.

Only 1 in 4 Medicare patients opt for cardiac rehabilitation

The new findings in the American Heart Association's journal Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes reveals that too few people covered by Medicare participated in outpatient cardiac rehabilitation after a heart attack or acute heart event or surgery, particularly women, the elderly and non-white patients.
